Coachella music fest

Jay-Z succeeded in bringing hip-hop to headline status with an entertaining set that satisfied even those who came to hear other artists. He performed chestnuts such as Big Pimpin' and more recent hits Run This Town and Empire State of Mind, but his wasn't a set to empower a generation of disaffected youths: It was to conquer them. A sample of Oasis' Wonderwall served as a sly reminder of Noel Gallagher's remark that Jay-Z didn't belong at an indie rock fest.
